Bulk Upload Competition Classes
Home / Competitions / Build and Prepare your Classes / Bulk Upload Competition ClassesRather than manually adding one class at a time (with class title, section, category, fees, rules, etc.), bulk import lets you upload many classes all at once by using a specially formatted CSV file. This is especially useful if your event has lots of classes (e.g. many categories, lots of competition types) — it saves a huge amount of manual work. After import, you still have full control: you can edit classes, assign categories, set fees, associate judges, change class status (open/closed) and update prizes, among other features.
NB: Only import your class csv AFTER reading the rules for creating your Bulk Import below.
Key Rules & Pitfalls to Avoid
- Don’t change the template headers. Renaming, deleting or reordering header columns will cause import to fail.
- Class names must be unique (within their section/category). Two classes with exactly same structure + title will conflict.
- Use compatible formatting. For example: date fields must use UK/Ireland format (not US). Text only — no special formatting, currency symbols, or Excel formatting.
- Be careful with Purge option. Purging deletes all existing classes in that event — and if there are entries tied to those classes, you cannot purge.
- After import, always verify. You will be presented with a report after bulk importing - make a copy of this for reference. You will be told which lines were not fully imported due to an error in the data. Check class list, categories, ensure there are no missing/wrong entries. Fix via edit if needed.
Upload your Bulk Import Class CSV file
-
Download BulkClass Import Template file - Bulk Class Upload Template File (CSV UTF-8) (download document available below)
- On date fields, NB - Use UK / Ireland Formats: DD-MM-YYYYorYYYY-MM-DD
- DO NOT USE American format mm/dd/yyyy
-
Open file using excel or other spreadsheet reader
-
Enter your Show's Class data in the SuperShow Bulk Class Import file
- When happy that you understand what data should be entered, remove the sample data - keeping only the header data
- NB the column headings must not be altered
- Ensure to include 'Section' and Class Title' for each class (for each row of data)
- Use the copy/drag option to populate quickly
- This file helps you to create a class structure quickly, remember that you can still edit classes from within SuperShow
- This import is only to get you started and/or for bulk updates
- Save the file in a .CSV format (Recommended format Comma seperated value UTF-8) before uploading
- This clears any formatting from the file - any formatting can be done once on the system
- Differences in File Formats include some CSV formats that are not compatible with special characters (eg. € symbol and the Cyrillic alphabet). Most formats will support the English alphabet.
-
Find the Show Event that you wish to upload your Classes to
-
Click on Classes > Import Classes tab > Click Choose File > Select your prepared file
-
Double-click or click on Open to upload (depending on your PC settings)
-
-
You have the option to PURGE EXISTANT CLASSES within this event upon import
-
PURGE IF you want to delete all classes that are currently listed
-
This will delete all class data there and replace it with the data in the file you are uploading
-
-
You will not see the PURGE option WHEN you have entries against any of the classes.
-
IF you have completed entries, you will need to create a service desk ticket and ask for the entries to be deleted by the technical team.
-
ONLY test entries up to the cart - do not process the order, so the entry will stay as unfinished
-
-
DO NOT PURGE IF you want to update the data that already exists.
-
- You must however keep the existing Category structure, and class title if you wish to AMMEND the class
- If you need to add a new class, the Category structure and class title should be different
- Eg. if you want to add overflow classes - the class title should have an appended note, eg. (Group 1), next class (Group 2) - no 2 classes should have the same category structure and class title. This will cause a conflict. There should be a difference in names if you need to create a separate account.
-
Once selected, you will see your file name showing - click Import File
-
On the pop-up screen, you will be asked if you are sure you want to import - click Import if you are sure.
- Your Class import speed will depend on the amount of classes, and your local internet connection.

-
Once uploaded, you will see all classes on the List Classes tab.
If any issues arose with the import file, a warning note will show. Please note the lines that were corrupted/not able to import. You will need to review these rows on your import file and correct any errors.
This error report should be copied to somewhere you can access later. This note is not stored.

- Category notes - add category opening and closing notes once bulk import is on the platform.
- Set the Category location, rings, category entry fee.
- Consistent Section/Category titles: Copy and paste categories down the column, for their classes - exact copies will keep all classes together.
- The category structure (section & category), class title and class number should be unique.
- You should not have 2 classes with the exact same structure and class title, you will get an error.
- You will also find that they cannot be edited seperately once in SuperShow.
- Add a letter or number to differentiate classes that need to keep similiar names
- Prize Types are not open to create new options - do not makeup Prize types.
- The options on the 'suggestion row' (row 2) are the only available options
